Hi Glenn: just click Clear again, this will bring the suggestions back. I did this so people could choose to either start over with a totally blank screen or the suggestions.

Hello

I downloaded your App and hit clear, thus clearing out the suggestions. How do I bring them back up?

James: no that was not it. My motivation was more along these lines: from the start, Diaspora had a ridiculous amount of public and financial support. Putting a lot of (unpaid) time and effort into something that is similar but has absolutely no public platform seemed, well, stupid. Now here we are a few months later and they haven't taken over the world, so maybe I'll have another shot at this.

I think Diaspora is dead because the guy developing it died. Was that a reason why you started development up again?

Just my two cents: The author is right but too polite.
The Mint I'm trying to use suddenly has no audio.
Okay. Several hours of seeking and still nothing.
For the most part, Windows has evolved past issues that cripple the system. (I also use XP and haven't gotten a virus or spyware in years) Most users today expect the thing to just work, day in and day out. Minor issues, preferences, etc. are icing on the cake and some research can usually solve them.
Linux may be still "developing", but if it can't get the basics right, then it will always lurk in the shadows for fanboys. It'll never come out of the closet for the largest segment: the average user. Pity. All that applied intelligence with such absolutely frustrating results;
A "pretend O/S" that's all shiny and new, runs "great", but for some reason, never seems able to get out of the driveway.

I've used, managed, and developed on UNIX, Solaris, FreeBSD (and VMS - the best) on and off for many, many years, although haven't worked with Linux much except as Android on the Phone. I'd venture to say that for server based environments, Linux would be excellent like most *nix environments. However, whenever I try Linux as a desktop replacement, I quickly revert back to MS Windows (or MAC). I simply don't believe the Linux community can compete with MS/MAC on the desktop. The pain of the last week with Ubuntu and the various Package Managers have left me fuming. Love running it as a server, and as a embedded or mobile platform (major kudos to Google), but forget competing with MS/MAC on the desktop.

Windows was invented to help people use computers. Prior to Windows, computer users had to be programmers - or at least conversant with command line systems. I have spent the last few weeks trying to get to grips with Linux after hearing that it was now 'user friendly' and 'really easy to use'.

What a crock of crap Linux has turned out to be. Its much vaunted stability isn't true - I had several freezes while using a fresh installation that had been fully updated. Installing new software was ridiculously difficult. In fact I simply couldn't get some 'made for Linux' software to get past the download stage. Some of it just disappeared!

Renaming some files caused some of them to be deleted permanently. Great. Linux is so stable. Several applications had menu options with nothing in them. For a system that supposedly has thousands of eager developers fixing bugs this seems pretty slack.

Linux is great if you love spending hours learning obscure code and then entering code into a command line interface just to do what Windows will do in two clicks. Windows is for people with work to do and a life to live outside of computers.
