The Death Of Email Date: 2007-11-19 11:49:33
Chad Lorenz is running an article on Slate implying that email is an archaic medium, now only used by oldsters who don't know any better. Duh! There are still people around who don't grasp that most tech advances get added to the ecosystem because they fill in for a deficiency of an existing technology. Seldom does that mean the existing technology gets wiped out in favor of the new stuff, even though the Valley's eternal cool-stuff chasers want to make us believe otherwise.
Look, there are things email is not well suited for. That doesn't mean Facebook and Twitter easily replace every aspect of it. We use the right tool for the job, okay? How is this so hard to get?
Years after the invention of the blog, we still use message board-style systems. Years after IM we still use email. Years after the rise of Vlogging, we're still watching TV. We're still driving cars, we're still reading books, we're still hanging out with people face-to-face.
Can you guess why?
